Gotham Roller Derby (GGRD) has played a pivotal role in the resurgence of roller derby in the United States. Founded by 10 women inspired by Austin’s TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls, the league has been home to hundreds of skaters over the years, supported by referees, mascots, and dedicated staff. By the end of its first season, GGRD was drawing crowds of more than 1,800 fans per bout at a South Bronx skating rink. The league has claimed multiple Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) national championships and remains a powerhouse in the sport today.
